Meaghan Carroll is a Literacy Coach at Betances Early Reading Lab Magnet School in Hartford, CT. In this school, devoted to students from Pre-Kindergarten to 3rd grade, she feels lucky to be working in a position that perfectly suits her passion for early literacy. She was born and raised in Hartford and finds it extremely rewarding to teach in the school system where she was once a student herself. Her mother is a former Hartford teacher and her father currently runs a community leadership program based in Hartford; so she comes from a family committed to the people and organizations of this city.
When she’s not involved in teaching-related tasks, she enjoys trying new recipes or curling up with a good book in the colder New England winter months and exploring new hiking spots and live music venues when the weather warms up. She also loves to spend her summers exploring new places, both nearby and abroad.

Candice Irwin- Literacy Coach
Candice Irwin is a literacy coach in Hartford, CT serving students in grades Prekindergarten through 8. When she was young she lived in many different places including Louisiana, Utah, and as far away as the Philippines. This provided her a diverse background in learning and education, and she continues to pursue her interest in educational equity for all students. Now she has settled nicely into her home in CT, but loves any opportunity to travel and to work with teachers across the country. From the first moment she started teaching fourth grade, Candice knew that this is where she belonged. The staff, students, and their families are an extension of her own family. Growing up Candice loved math and reading, and is so lucky to work in school where she can still learn so much from all of the incredibly bright students! Candice is thrilled to be working with the content literacy team- collaborating with a group of professionals so deeply invested in urban education and providing meaningful educational experiences for students is truly a joy.
